Folklore links one famous Christian priest Kadamattathu Kathanar with one of the Minor shrines in this complex. It is said that the Vampire was arrested by the priest and brought to the jungles here, where is supposed to have been released from the curse of previous life and restored to godly status. It is this liberated soul that is worshipped here as the Yakshi Amma. It is believed that she was a beautiful Virgin Goddess who became obsessed with nymphomania and was cursed to spend a life as a Vampire for her sins. One can draw a lesson of being cautious against excessive lust.
