ADISSAR Family
The Adissar Family of Padinjattedathu are the present custodians and owners of the Panayannarkavu temple complex. They are the descendants of a family of Sate Officers of the Royal clan of Srayikkur in Northern Malabar who had migrated to Omallor some three hundred years back, to escape harassment by the Zamorin of Calicut and Muslim invaders from North. One of their ancestors, who was adept in Medicine ,named Kanadan Adissar had treated Ramayyan Dalawa, the Commander of the Travancore Army for virulous attack of Small Pox and was rewarded with State Honours and gifts of Land. The first of 49 such land was the Panayannar Kavu precincts. This property is now fenced in and protected. It is traditionally believed that the Place was an ancestral property abandoned by a Brahmin family, who were the last remnants of 108 original families of Brahmins brought to Kerala by the legendary Parasuram. Those early inhabitants are believed to have perished fighting each other in the name of sectarian conflicts among Saivas and Vaishnavas.
The Adissar family members who tried to clear the jungles stumbled upon the ruins of the ancient Devi Temple and evidence of Snake worship at this place. They then renovated the place and built new Devi temple detailed Chronicle of the origin and development of the Devi Temple complex has been written by Sri Appukuttan Adissar and has been published by the Devaswom Temple and the accessory Snake Worship facilities here.
Efforts are being made to preserve/restore the Paintings and the addition of traditional Architectural features to the Complex.
